We have grammar lesson on gerunds what is a gerund ?
- A gerund is the ing form of the verb used as a noun in a sentence .
Use : It can be used :
a) As a subject :
e.g. Learning english is difficulf
-Eating is better then drinking beer
b) After preposition (before, after, by, at, in, of, for)
e.g. I eat before going toschool
mputu is good at playing football
After taking money he runs
c) Gerund after certains verbs
a)A gerund is always used after certain verbs some of these are :
- advise, avoid, dislike, enjoy, miss, tinish, imagine, keep, practise, stop, suggest, prefer etc
e.g. Stop speaking kikongo in the classroom
Avoid writing mistake
b) some verbs can be followed by either a gerund or the infinitive
Some of there are : begin, continue, like, prefer
e.g. I prefer going to school
I Prefer to go to school
